Family Mediation FAQ
Direct answers to common questions about divorce, co-parenting, and preserving workable family relationships after conflict.
Quick answer
Family mediation helps people navigate separation, parenting plans, and family decisions in a confidential setting with a neutral guide—supporting clearer communication and less damage to relationships that still matter.
Is mediation only for couples who get along?
No. Many people enter mediation with significant tension. What matters more is a willingness to participate and explore options in a structured process—especially when co-parenting or other future interaction remains necessary.
Can we mediate if we already have attorneys?
Yes. Many clients consult counsel alongside mediation, and some matters are referred by attorneys. The mediator remains neutral and does not replace legal advice.
What about preserving relationships?
Mediation does not promise reconciliation in every case. When relevant, it can help protect enough trust and communication for workable long-term functioning—such as co-parenting—with more dignity and less emotional fallout.
What about safety concerns?
Safety comes first. If mediation is not appropriate due to safety risks, we will say so and discuss alternative paths.
