Process
Mediation is a guided conversation with structure. Here’s what to expect—so you can decide with less uncertainty and more confidence.
Mediation is a confidential process where a neutral third party helps people in conflict communicate, understand interests, and work toward agreements they choose. The mediator does not decide the outcome or take sides.
Mediation often fits when people want a say in the outcome, prefer privacy, need ongoing relationships to function, or want a less adversarial path than court— including when counsel has suggested mediation as a constructive step. It may not be appropriate in every situation—especially where safety is a concern.
Come ready to share your perspective and listen. You don’t need perfect wording— just openness to explore options. Progress can be emotional and practical at once.
Mediation is designed to be private, with limited legal exceptions. We’ll explain boundaries clearly before substantive discussions begin. Learn more about confidentiality.
Both formats can work well. Online mediation offers flexibility and distance; in-person sessions can feel more grounded for some people. We’ll help you choose based on comfort, logistics, and the nature of the dispute. Explore online mediation.
